Trogon Lodge is a cozy mountain lodge situated in the Savegre Valley in San Gerardo de Dota and is surrounded by cloud forest. The town is 2,450 feet above sea level, so temperatures are cooler than the majority of Costa Rica and can get chilly at night and early morning. The majority of visitors come to see the Resplendent Quetzal, sightings of which are plentiful and they inhabit this area all year round.

Rooms: There are 25 rooms in total, 24 standard and 1 superior room. The standard rooms have one or two queen beds, and an outside shared terrace.

Dining: The onsite restaurant El Quetzal has views of the trout pond and serves farm to table dishes.

Onsite: There are two trails onsite that are clearly marked and can be explored with a guide or independently. A small loop takes 20 minutes to the waterfall and the longer trail takes approx. 1.5 hours.

Nearby Excursions: The signature tour from Trogon Lodge is the Quetzal Quest in the search for the Resplendent Quetzal. You can do more extensive guided bird watching, hiking in Paramo forest or for the more adventurous the full day challenging climb to Cerro de la Muerte hike (3,400 above sea level).
